Working out
under a physical instructor who has no training
certificate is perhaps as disconcerting as going for a
medical check-up to a person who does not have a medical
degree. The former may soon become a rarity. A
certificate course in preventive healthcare, being
offered by Nirmaan, an initiative of the BD Bangur
Endowment Trust and the Mumbai-based BFY Sports and
Fitness, is expected to make health a more attaina ble
dream.
-
"Gyms and
health clubs are mushrooming in the city but few have
proper trainers," said Rajeev Goenka, director, BYF
Sports and Fitness, at Bengal Club on Thursday.
-
"Improper
training can be hazardous. Gyms in Mumbai and Pune have
realised this and these days prefer hiring educated
instructors," said Goenka. who is obviously hopeful of
Kolkata waking up to the need.
-
Nirmaan is
offering two certificate courses — the Progressive
Fitness Certificate, tagged at Rs 17,000, and the ACE
American Certificate, which comes for Rs 38,000 — that
will deal with subjects such as basic human anatomy and
physiology The training centre will be located in
central Kolkata. The BD Bangur Endowment trust has also
come forward to help students with loans with easy
repayment schemes.
-
"The
course starts in a month," said Goenka.
